This looks like an older thread but I couldn't resist putting in my two cents... I have a 1320 hydro 4x4 and run an older Howse 5' rotary cutter that I rebuilt. Most of what I cut is weeds (sometimes quite high) and occasional small brush under 1". The tractor does fine at about any speed in the medium gear range. I recommend a 5' for this tractor so you can cover the width of the tires. I personally think that this tractor is somewhat under-rated in terms of PTO HP but then again I guess numbers are numbers. I would get the 5' and then if/when you ever get a bigger tractor you should be set there too. I have not had any problems turning the 5' cutter but always use common sense too. I don't buy the earlier comment that you would loose any ground speed with a 5' compared to a 4'. If you did it would be insignificant and if your were worried about this small of a difference you are probably cutting for money and in this case should probably be using a larger tractor all together. I have a New Holland 1320 with 300 hours on it. I am the original owner, the tractor is meticulously maintained and it has been a fantastic machine with no problems. I have to heat the glow plugs to start this tractor when the engine is cold no matter what the outside temperature is. Is this normal? It typically starts fine without the glow plugs once the engine is warm unless the tractor has been sitting for some length of time and the engine cools off to that 'critical' temp. I have two friends with 'Deeres and they do not have to hit the glow plugs to cold-start thier tractors unless it is quite cold outside. I'm probably concerned over nothing but can anyone share thier experiences in this area?

I love this Tractor Board!! Thank you so much for the info. I have contacted Howse and they are sending me info. I was worried that I had bought a cutter made by some obscure, long-defunct implement company. I believe that Howse has a pretty good reputation though.

Just my two cents...
I have a NH-1320 HSD 4x4 with turfs. I purchased my chains from chains.com as well. I had to reverse my wheels to gain enough clearance between the side chain and ROPS inside the fender well. The tractor really does good with chains front and rear. I have found turf tires to be next to useless on snow/ice without chains even in 4x4. You wil find chains a very good investment if you move any significant abount of snow. Good luck.
